Lodge of Remembrance History

For some time several of the younger Brethren of the Duke of Albany Lodge No 1963 had in mind the possibility of founding a new Lodge, as due to their large membership they saw no prospect of an outlet to their Masonic activities and it was felt that their aspirations would be materially assisted by the founding of a new Lodge.  They had the interest of the Craft at heart and wished to exert their efforts in the promotion of the principles of Freemasonry.

At a meeting of the Duke of Albany Lodge in July 1926, W.Bro. J.E. Aylott expressed the desire of the Brethren to found a new Lodge as an off shoot of the Duke of Albany and formally moved that “The Lodge views with satisfaction the proposal to found a first daughter Lodge and cordially wishes the promoters every success".  In seconding W.Bro. Harvey explained that a meeting of the Past Masters and Officers had taken place and the proposal was recommended for approval. This was unanimously given and all expressed their happiness to sponsor the new Lodge.

The Lodge was to be called ‘The Lodge of Remembrance’.

Notification was received from Grand Lodge dated 31st December 1926 that the M.W. the Grand Master had approved the Petition and also agreed the name of the new Lodge.  The number would be 4895.
